Choose A Real Christmas Tree This Year
WHY YOU SHOULD CHOOSE A REAL CHRISTMAS TREE
Nothing beats getting a real Christmas Tree and having your home filled with a beautiful natural scent. Only those of you that have owned one will know what I mean and why I’m passionate about real Christmas Trees. Today, it seems many people would rather have an artificial tree than a real one.
However, in recent surveys, it seems getting a real tree this Christmas may be what a lot more people are choosing to do. Did you know that a 6.5ft artificial tree has a carbon footprint equivalent to about 40kg of greenhouse gas emissions? That’s more than twice the emissions of a real tree that ends its life in a landfill. It’s also more than 10 times that of a real tree which is burnt.
Artificial trees, especially older ones are brimming with chemicals like PVC plastics that release dioxins over time. It is believed that dioxin is a toxic chemical linked with everything from skin rashes to cancer. Fortunately for real Christmas Trees, there are no toxic chemicals, only what nature intended.

TIPS FOR SETTING UP YOUR REAL CHRISTMAS TREE
When setting up your Christmas Tree, you need the right tools to ensure it's safe and properly set up. This may include gloves for shaping branches, scissors with safety handles for packaging, and a sturdy ladder or step stool for installing toppers and arranging decor on taller trees.
Once you have your tools, let's begin with the fun part. A great looking Christmas Tree has a distinctive look that often ties the decorations together. Deciding on a theme before choosing your decorations sets the tone and gives you a clear idea on how to decorate your tree.
Arguably the most important thing you need to do when decorating your Christmas Tree is to always add the lights first. It's more difficult to do this after you've added decorations like baubles and garlands.
When adding the strands of lights, always begin with the female end at the very top of the tree. Then, as you work your way down, gently pull the three entwined wires open and then twist them back together around boughs and branches. This keeps the lights in place. We supply a small range of lights
Don’t forget to weave the lights in towards the centre of the tree and back out again. This makes the decorated tree glow from top to bottom, inside and out.
CHRISTMAS TREE DECORATIONS
After getting your lights sorted and fitted, let's get into the next fun part. Whether it's hanging tree decorations, garlands, ribbons, or floral picks, you should choose tree decorations that will complement the overall appearance of your tree.
Many bauble sets include different shapes, sizes, finishes and designs. Combining these with traditional baubles will give you more freedom to play up your theme.
Don't forget when adding ornaments like the lights, place them deep within the tree too. This adds depth to the look of the tree and it also balances the weight on the tree boughs. I also tend to hang larger, heavier ornaments further into the tree to prevent the boughs from sagging and looking sad.
Remember to pack away all your decorations at the end of the festive season. In Portlaoise, there is also a free recycling service for your real Christmas Tree in Kyletalesha Recycling Centre throughout January. Remember to remove all lights and decorations and pack them away safely for the following year.
